The Highwayman

The Activation

Solid Ground launched the Carriage Shed as a multi-use events space in April 2016, on behalf of Muse Developments and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

We worked with local theatre production company Theatre in the Quarter led by Matt Baker in summer 2017 to deliver a youth led performance of The Highwayman, created originally for the Pageant of the Dee festival as a site specific performance.

The Highwayman was a dynamic and innovative musical performance, adapted for the Carriage Shed by the talented Theatre in the Quarter team, to make it completely unique to the location, re-telling of Cheshires own Highwayman Higgins which had real relevance to the Carriage Shed and it’s links with the Railways as a previously used train carriage shed.

The space was transformed by the youth performers, delivering three days of matinee and evening performance in the stunning and historical surroundings.
