To mark World Book Day, we wanted to create something simple but powerful at Courage Yard: an activation that celebrated the joy of reading while encouraging people to connect with the local area and each other.

We invited members of the local community to tell us about their favourite books – the ones that made them think, laugh or cry. We then bought those very titles, added bespoke bookmarks, and hid them around some of London’s most recognisable landmarks. Each bookmark featured a QR code, linking to a page where the finder could discover more about the recommender and explore all that Courage Yard has to offer.
We built a buzz across social media in the run-up to the event, encouraging people to join the hunt and share what they found.
The result?
A joyful blend of online and on-the-ground engagement, new visitors discovering Courage Yard for the first time, and a campaign that went beyond books – sparking connection, curiosity and conversation across the neighbourhood.
